Arts History and Museums :
Art is life, opening of the eyes and senses. Visiting a museum is meeting with the artist vision so as to enlarge our own perception. A greatest interest in my tour guide experience is to share this discovery, connecting our own life to art. My first artistic experience started with music, playing the harp since childhood up to a professional level. Visual arts followed, with a never ending study of art history and a passion to see more, feel deeper end enjoy life as a paradise, such as Renoir and Matisse conveyed it on the Riviera. My tours in our museums gave me the opportunity to guide art lovers and museum associations from all over the world. Our museums may be smaller here in Provence, but going through the countryside where Van Gogh could dream of Japan by the cherry trees, or being in the intense light and lush vegetation that inspired Matisse is an unforgettable experience that will change your vision on their art forever. Not to forget, the discovery of unknown works of art and artists in local churches and museums, which achievement equals the art you can see in the greatest museums of the world.
Since I qualified as a " guide national " in 1987, I improved my expertise, also qualifying as " Guide-Conférencier des Villes et Pays d'Art et d'Histoire " (tour guide specialised in artistic and historical cities), and was awarded a master degree " Restauration et réhabilitation du patrimoine transfrontalier Nice Ligurie " (restoration of Nice and ligurian architecture heritage). I learned about local techniques and materials; No need to say that architecture is a real passion, either visiting the past or our contemporary world. The way we build is the way we think and live, every element of architecture is significant and meaningful. All types of architectures can be seen on the Côte d'Azur, from the roman Trophee of Augustus up to the works of Kenzo Tange or Jose Luis Sert, passing through the splendors of the Baroque.
Fashion and Jewelry :
The Côte d'Azur is after Paris the greatest concentration of exclusive shops, in Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo. But there are also some smaller and local designers to be found in the Old Nice or some of the amazing medieval villages around. This is real pleasure to discover them ! I am not a specialist, but the creators you can meet will be pleased to introduce you to their work.
Wine and Gastronomy :
It is definitely part of the trip ! Or could be the reason you choose the Côte d'Azur and Provence as a destination, as there is so much to taste, vineyards to visit, immense variety of restaurants that serve tasty food of all categories, and the stars, top of the list... You may prefer to cook rather than being served. Large colorful markets are a delight for the eyes and nose. I love the way fresh produces you see there are employed in local cuisine. I worked as a guide for the Chateau de Bellet, a very exclusive vineyard producing small quantities in Nice, excellent enough so as to be served at the Louis XV in Monte Carlo...
Gardens and Botanic :
My passion for gardens would rank to 20 stars ! Although I admit I am not a gardener, the vegetation is so intensely present on the Côte d'Azur that I had to study some botanic and history of gardens, so as to guide tours in the extraordinary parks that can be visited on the french and italian Riviera. I also took a course on local plants and essential oils, as the inland offers another type of vegetation, no less rich than the coast. Specialists say we can see on the territory around Nice 70 % of all species visible in Europe ! Come to discover this paradise !
History, Historical Sites and Monuments :
History is a big part of our studies. I don't see how it could be different as it is the way to understand our time. Of course, my taste in architecture can help you guess my interest in historical monuments and sites.
Traditions and Local History :
If you come to the french Riviera, you will rapidly understand that it has nothing to do with Paris ! Each part of France is a different history, especially for us since Nice became french no earlier than 1860, and Monaco is still an independent territory ! No need to say how specific this area is regarding traditions, architecture, food and mentality, as well as literature and music As a local tour guide, I like to emphasize on the special and unknown values of this territory. Don't you travel to discover something different ?
Vintage Furniture and Flea Market :
Antiques and flea markets can be visited in every city or small village. Buying things from the past is part of our heritage, a tradition... I'll be pleased to show you shops and markets, for a browse or more expert research. If I don't know about something, I'll inquire for you !
Modern Art :
A must on the French Riviera !
Off the Beaten Tracks Local Sites :
I love, above all, to show the unknown, to introduce some element of surprise in a trip. Especially knowing that the unknown is often as beautiful and interesting as the most famous site or works of art, but it is there just for you, a very special privilege...
Religion, Religous Monuments :
I took for years a winter course on Art Sacré, equivalent to a university degree, to go deeper into the knowledge of different religions and art / architecture related to it. Our major religious heritage here is the "baroque style", but we can see churches of all faiths, a great architectural diversity!
